Attendance
Remember: “Every day counts!”
At Elmstead Wood Primary School we consider that regular school attendance is vital in ensuring the best educational outcome. We believe that every child deserves the best education, which will prepare them for the next stage of their life, and attendance has a large impact on academic progress.
Good attendance is considered to be 96% and above.
Support and guidance on attendance is always available in school. We have an attendance champion, who is Mrs Lewis (headteacher). If you have any questions about attendance, please contact Mrs Arnold our Pupil Support Leader initially.
Parents have a responsibility to ensure their child attends school regularly and arrives on time. Permitting absence from school without good reason could result in an offence and may result in prosecution.
Persistent absence means your child has less chance of success and attendance below 90% (19 days absence) will have a serious impact on their education.
Each school day equates to two possible sessions of attendance (am/pm).
As a school, we are not permitted to authorise holidays during term time and, as such, these will not be authorised. In exceptional circumstances (e.g. associated with bereavement and required to attend a funeral abroad) you can request a leave of absence using the form at the bottom of this page. The Head Teacher may consult with the Local Authority Education Welfare Department to take advice before authorisation is provided.
Please make sure that your child is at school on time and here every day, unless they are ill. If your child is absent from school, please let the school office know.
For all absences, please email admin@elmsteadwoodprimary.co.uk. Messages can also be left on our absence line – please dial the school office and select the absence line option.
The school gates are open for the children to arrive from 8:40 am; they should enter the school through the main doors and walk round to their classrooms. The school day starts at 8:50 am and finishes at 3:20 pm for Key Stage 1 and 3:25 pm for Key Stage 2.
For safety reasons, please remember to let the school office know by 2:30 pm if a different adult is collecting your child.
